Accessible Styling

How you style things can impact how understandable your page is. Here are 4 style elements you should consider:

  • Font size choosing a font size that is too small (or too big) can make it difficult for users to read your content.
You should use em units for font size because they allow the browser to more effectively scale text.
  • Font family make sure you choose an easily readable typeface for the content of your pages.
  • Colour meanings don't rely on colour to confer meaning to elements on your page.
  • Contrast make sure the colour contrast between text and background colour is sufficient to be easily readable.
To achieve the WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion for contrast (1.4.3), you must have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
